Varanasi: Out of the 72,000 women who invested approximately Rs 6.36 billion in the Mahila Samman Saving Certificate (MSSC) across Uttar Pradesh over 10 months, 18,721 women investors hail from the Varanasi region alone, said postmaster general Krishna Kumar Yadav.
He made this announcement while inaugurating a feeding room for women employees at the Varanasi Cantt Head Post Office on Wednesday.He also pointed out that the Varanasi region has the highest number of MSSC investors within the UP circle.
“Women have enthusiastically embraced the MSSC, introduced for them during the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal’ starting from April 1, 2023. A total of over 72,000 women have invested approximately Rs 6.36 billion in this scheme across UP over the past 10 months. Among them, the largest number, 18,721 women, have chosen to invest in MSSC specifically within the Varanasi region, which is located within the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the Varanasi region, these 18,721 women have collectively invested over Rs 93.51 crore in the scheme,” said Yadav.
Highlighting efforts towards women empowerment, Yadav stressed on the significance of MSSC and the ‘Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme’. He said these schemes foster women’s financial inclusion and empowerment. Yadav further pointed out that, in line with the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme, 3.2 lakh Sukanya Samriddhi accounts have been opened in the Varanasi region. Additionally, by covering all girls up to 10 years of age in 933 villages under this scheme, these villages have been transformed into ‘Complete Sukanya Samriddhi Gram’.
Vinay Kumar, superintendent of post offices in Varanasi West division, elaborated on the features of the two-year tenure MSSC.
